CAPA History
1962 Initial meetings of Colorado Activity Directors
1963 First training course
1964 Formal organization under the name Colorado Association of Activity Directors (CAAD). Original membership numbered 20.
1965 CAAD adopts the Ankh as its emblem
   
1970 Chapters formed by geographic location. First chapters were Denver Metro and Northern Chapters
1971 Southern and Western Slope chapters formed. Activity Directors Conference Group formed
1974 CAAD sponsored a presentation by Maggie Kuhn, leader of the Gray Panthers which led to the development of the Colorado Gray Panthers.
1979 Eastern Chapter formed
   
1981 Organization name changed from CAAD to Colorado Activity Professionals' Association (CAPA)
1983 Northeastern chapter formed
1984 CAPA hosts the National Association of Activity Professionals (NAAP) 2nd Annual Convention in Denver
1985 First annual CAPA Convention in Colorado Springs CAPA incorporates
1988 First annual Colorado National Activity Professionals Day
1989 CAPA celebrates its 25th anniversary. Southwest chapter formed
   
1990 CAPA sponsors 9-credit pilot program for Activity Director Training at Arapahoe Community College
1994 CAPA celebrates its 30th anniversary
1995 Boulder County chapter formed
   
2000 CAPA hosts NAAP 18th annual Conference in Colorado Springs
2002 CAPA web site goes online
